Fort Belvedere: Florence as you've never seen it before

If you want to see Florence in all its beauty, then you must go up to Fort Belvedere, and go now because the fortress is only open in the summer. Every year Fort Belvedere opens its doors from July to October (closing this year is scheduled for October 20): a unique opportunity to visit the Renaissance fortress and enjoy the fabulous view of Florence that can be admired from its gardens and terraces. Not only that but with the very same ticket, you can also visit the prestigious contemporary art exhibitions set up both inside and outside the structure.

This summer there are two exhibitions: the photographic exhibition "A perfect day" by maestro Massimo Listri, the great architectural photographer who exhibits unpublished shots of the interiors of Florence’s main monuments (the room dedicated to Michelangelo's works is especially spectacular); and the exhibition "My Land" by sculptor Davide Rivalta, which presents majestic bronze animals placed around the Fort and its terraces: ten buffaloes, an eagle, a rhino and two wolves, creating a mysterious and fascinating presence.

Getting to Fort Belvedere from the Convitto della Calza is particularly easy and pleasant: with a 20-minute walk through the beautiful Boboli Gardens, you reach the top of the Boboli hill where a breathtaking view awaits you. If you don't feel like walking, there is the FB “bus delle mostre d’arte” (art exhibition bus), which stops right in front of the Convitto and reaches Fort Belvedere in just a few minutes.
